Haarlem will be the comics capital of the world during the sixth
edition of the bi-annual Stripdagen Haarlem comics festival.
With a wide and diverse programming (on more than 35 different
locations), the festival involves virtually all of Haarlem’s
many cultural venues.
This
edition’s programme is centred on three themes: 220
Volt
Comics, Connected Images
and Ecole Pigalle.
220 Volt Comics
refers to the computer
screen as the canvas for comics. During the Stripdagen a special workshop on
digital comics will be organised at medi@haarlem, which offers an opportunity for all
to experience how comics artists use the the computer as an artistic
tool. Specialists from the comics
collective Actus Tragicus (Israel) will educate young
comics artists about their experiences.
The Stripdagen Haarlem poster reflects the 220 Volt
Comics idea, as it was digitally designed and produced by Erik
Kriek. A DVD with some one hundred images of robots (produced by VJ
August Fratzemacher) will be
shown on various screens on the festival site.
As for
Connected Images , the
Vleeshal, Vishal and
Nieuwe Vide will
examine the borders between comics and graphic fine art. Twenty artists take
part in this examination, from the Netherlands, the USA and
South-Africa.
